About THE BAND
SAME MISTAKE TWICE is made up of a group of talented musicians who met while studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. They are currently in the process of recording their original music and just finished a summer tour of the Northeast and shows in Michigan.
Lead Vocalist Alisha Dixon is from Manahawkin, NJ has been singing for about 10 years and writing music for about 4. "Writing, for me, is probably the best thing to happen to me. It's such an outlet for the tumultuous time early on in life. I used to only sing other people's music, but no matter how relevant the songs were to my life they were never as personal as the originals I've compiled thus far." She sang locally for most of her life in small things, never really able to get the credibility from bands as a front woman. Then she earned a spot in the Hollywood rounds in Season 7 of American Idol, and became increasingly popular by her peers. But it was all a little too late, she had already moved on...anticipating her new endeavor of moving to the city of Boston to attend Berklee College of Music. While there she quickly realized her "calling," so to speak, was rock music. She wanted nothing more than to get up on a stage and kill a show. So, she put out a bunch of advertisements for a new band and wound up with her favorite group of people at school, who later became...Same Mistake Twice.
Jay Marcovitz, guitar, hails from Detroit. He's been playing music for over 15 years, with the last 4 years performing professionally, specializing mainly in guitar and bass. He was prompted to take music lessons at the age of three after being constantly observed watching and imitating performers like Eric Clapton and John Mellencamp on television. At age ten he took up trumpet and played for three years in concert and jazz bands until he finally sank into guitar. At the age of fourteen he started forming bands and performing at shows and youth centers around the area. He eventually settled in a ten piece Rock/Ska outfit called Mad Hot Dance Hall and began playing shows in Detroit as well, while sessioning on drums and bass for many groups around town as well as performing an additional three nights a week in a jazz quintet . After gigging all throughout high school he came to Berklee College of Music to further his musical endeavors. He's now playing in Same Mistake Twice in hopes of taking it even further.
Drummer David Westerhout was born in the politically turbulent country of Zimbabwe where there were never many opportunities for a child growing up, but for some strange reason being born into a family with no real musical background there was always an undercurrent of musical growth in his veins. He took up the drums at age 11 and has been playing ever since! He was lucky enough to move out of the country at the age of 14 to move to boarding school in the south of England named Christs Hospital (from the VH1 Program Rock School with Gene Simmons). And without any knowledge this was the move that would determine his musical future, playing in many groups including that of one of Britain's most prestigious marching bands leading the way for the Queen's birthday. Ever since he has been playing and writing as much music as possible, not to mention starting the career jump into music production.. In this light he has been very privileged to have been taken under the wing of one of the UK's leading producers James McMillan. Not only has he learned a great deal about the business but has been blessed with the opportunities to engineer, co-produce and work on albums with some of the worlds leading musicians and co workers... To name a few: Kirk Whalum... Jocelyn Brown... Chris Walden.... Pete Murray... Ralph Salmins.... Michael Ball... Russell Watson.... Priscilla Jones Campbell.... Hayley Westenra..... Hannah Ild.... And hopefully many more. After high school he moved further west to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music to "immerse himself in music from head to toe". This somehow finding him a way into Same Mistake Twice, Playing drums, piano, and singing backing vocals for the band, "I find myself on one of the greatest musical endeavors of my life and can't wait to see where it ends up."
Guitarist Mike Cavalli, born and raised in New Jersey, has been passionate about music since he got his first drum in elementary school. From that day on, it was certain he wanted to do nothing but play. After being in so many bands and playing so many shows in Jersey, Mike knew it was time to move on to bigger things. He took off to Boston to further his education at Berklee College of Music and what he found was the most dedicated band that friends could create: Same Mistake Twice.
